Engagement 2014 – Training Calendar

Mon 4^th March to Friday 7^th March 2014

The Library has scheduled a number of information and training classes throughout 2014 in order to promote Library services, as well as engage with students and support NMIT staff.

The first of these sessions will commence on Monday 3^rd March 2014.

These programs have been divided into the following series: the Basic Research Skills Series, Essential Information Series, Staff Support Series and the Library Orientation Activity.

Please contact your local campus library to secure your place… there are still some places available for next week's sessions.

Engagement 2014: Library information and training sessions for Students

 

Engagement 2014

Overview

The Library has scheduled a number of information and training classes throughout 2014 in order to promote Library services, as well as engage with students and support NMIT staff.

The following sessions have been programed for Semester 1.  The program will commence on Monday 3^rd March 2014. Semester 2 classes will be promoted in late May 2014.

These programs have been divided into the following series to support students: the Basic Research Skills Series, Essential Information Series and the Library Orientation Activity.

Basic Research Skills Series

This series will have four specific 30 min classes aimed at addressing core skills required by students when developing basic research skills. Each class will run concurrently, for four sessions per week over two weeks, allowing the possibility of booking in for either an AM or PM session.

The classes will be succinct, consistent, and available across all campuses: Collingwood, Epping, Fairfield and Preston have been confirmed.

Target Audience: All enrolled NMIT Students

For Beginners: Introducing FindIT@NMIT - The basics for using the FindIt search tool on the NMIT Library website.

How to find a journal article - What is a scholarly journal article? Employ a variety of search techniques to locate online copies of journal articles using FindIT@NMIT

NMIT Library and Beyond - This session is designed to explain how to locate Interlibrary loans, CAVAL borrowing and using other libraries.

Evaluate & Reflect - This session is designed to explain how to locate Inter-library loans, CAVAL borrowing and using other libraries.

Essential Information Series

This series will be offered throughout the year and will run concurrently during semester one with the Basic Research Skills Series. The 30 min sessions will also be offered over four sessions over a two week period, except for Academic Integrity which will run eight sessions over a four week period. 

The classes will be made available at: Epping, Fairfield and Preston.

Academic Integrity – Basic information session to clarify and inform students about the importance of Academic Integrity.

Copyright - Basic information session regarding copyright for students, which incorporates how to attribute third party materials, using Creative Commons or licenced materials.

So you think you can Google? - How to use more effective Google search strategies.

TurnItIn - Basic information session on using this text matching software, functions and interpreting the TurnItIn originality report.

Using the Cloud, including Dropbox - Are you on the cloud? How to use Dropbox from your PC or devices and its benefits.

Registration

Please contact your campus library for more information or to register for the session. 

Teachers are encouraged to register their students for these sessions as a group or students may choose to register themselves by contacting their local campus library directly.

Prahran Campus Library Opens

Melbourne Polytechnic Prahran campus library opens for business on Monday 24th February, hours 8.30 am to 5.00 pm. Come and check out the new space and find a great place to hang out and study when not in class!
